Two years since the creation of Kush All Day and still some people ask us what is kush and why allday?

Cannabis can be classified in many different ways. Usually, this resinous flower is categorised as sativa, hybrid or indica, based on the morphology of the plant. But hemp can be further categorized through a vernacular language defined by popular culture, such as Kush, Haze and Purple. These terms refer to types of cannabis that are characterized by distinct smells, flavors, effects and/or geographic regions.

What makes hemp "Kush"?
Kush is a special variety of cannabis that originates from the Hindu Kush mountains. This mountain range straddles the Afghanistan-Pakistan border and is one of the few geographical areas where the hemp plant grows natively.

Having strong Kush genetics usually means that a strain will have some of the following characteristics:

Show: Your stem may show deep green colas and leaves with hints of purple. The hyphae (hairs) may appear orange, copper or rust colored. The buds are dense, thick and knotted, coming from bushy and thick plants.
Odour: The aroma can vary between earthy, floral, spicy, pine, incense, sweet fruit, sweet fruit, hash spice, pepper, citrus, gas and herbal.
Taste: The smoke or vapour should be smooth and herbaceous, with a floral, grape, diesel, citrus and earthy flavour.
Effects: The effects are usually heavy and sedative. Crosses with OG Kush are usually paired with a bright euphoria that leaves a smile on the consumer's face as they sink into their couch. Introspection or inner reflection is also a common effect of Kush. These cerebral effects make a strong case for Kush as a meditative cannabis strain.
Please note that these characteristics may vary from Kush strain to Kush strain. The way a strain develops and its unique genetic expression (referred to as 'phenotype') will naturally influence the characteristics of a strain.

Among cannabis breeders, Kush varieties are popular candidates for backcrossing and in turn for stabilising hybrid genetics. As with many landraces, Kush genetics exhibit natural resistance to certain elements inherent to their country of origin. This includes hardy stocks and vegetation that can survive colder, harsher climates and moderate water consumption, allowing the plant to tolerate somewhat parched soil. In addition to their natural hardiness, many growers choose to grow Kush strains for their high yields and manageable height.

What are the most popular strains of Kush cannabis?
A simple search of "Kush" will yield hundreds of strains with at least one Afghan ancestor, but let's start with the five most popular from previous years:

  1. OG Kush - The most famous of all the Kush varieties, the OG Kush hits the sweet spot in the dominant indica hybrid scale. This strain's comfortable yet powerful suppression combined with a refreshing euphoria make it the perfect strain for just feeling good.
  2. Bubba Kush - Bubba Kush is relaxed and calming, sticking the consumer to the couch like a pair of concrete boots with matching concrete overalls and an impressive cement trench coat. Bubba Kush can also whet your appetite. Just try not to fall asleep in front of the fridge while pouring spoonfuls into the cake box.
  3. Purple Kush - Purple Kush has purple foliage and will generally have an earthy, grape flavor as well as a sleepy, drowsy taste.
  4. Master Kush - Master Kush is another classic Kush that inherits characteristics directly from Hindu Kush. With a blend of sleepy, happy and relaxing effects, Master Kush earns its title. This strain is an excellent alternative to Bubba Kush.
  5. Critical Kush - Its smoke gives a moderate stone effect that is ideal for relaxing activities in nature, such as hanging out under a tamarisk tree, sunbathing by the sea, etc.

and we'll continue with your 5 favorites as determined by sales at your favorite Kushallday.
